Real gases approach ideal behaviour most closely when intermolecular effects and molecular volume are relatively unimportant.

Pressure in fluids

Pressure measures normal force per unit area. In a fluid at rest, pressure changes with depth because the fluid above has weight.

This explains why pressure is not simply 'a force': the same force distributed over a different area produces a different pressure.

Temperature characterizes thermal state and is linked statistically to microscopic behaviour; heat is energy transferred because of a temperature difference.
