Chemical kinetics asks how fast reactions occur and which molecular steps control that speed. Concentration, temperature and catalysts can change the observed rate.

A catalyst changes the pathway and can lower the activation barrier; it does not change the equilibrium constant.

A reaction pathway usually has an energetic barrier between reactants and products. Activation energy characterizes that barrier for a specified elementary process or model.

At chemical equilibrium, forward and reverse processes continue but their rates are equal, so macroscopic composition no longer changes with time. Equilibrium is dynamic, not a frozen reaction.
