One room is 19 °C and another 23 °C: the temperature gap is 4 °C. A temperature interval of 4 °C is also 4 K because the degree Celsius and kelvin have the same magnitude for temperature differences.

How to read the result

The gap is the absolute difference between A and B. The ratio answers “how many times?”, while the percentage difference compares the gap with the average magnitude of the two values.

A percentage difference is useful for relative comparison, but it does not replace the absolute gap. Always keep the unit and the real-world scale in view.

For Celsius and Fahrenheit, a percentage comparison is usually misleading because zero is conventional. Kelvin has an absolute zero, so ratios and percentages have a physical meaning when used carefully.

Percentage difference is symmetric: swapping A and B does not change the result. Percentage change is directional and does change when the reference value changes.
