Mendeleev.com grew out of a shared appetite for science, writing and making useful things. We wanted a place where a periodic table is not the end of the story, but the beginning of a question: why does this element matter, where do we encounter it, and what does it help us understand?
Science, literature and curiosity
Flo is both scientific and literary. A constant reader, she likes to follow a question through books, reference sources and unexpected detours before turning it into clear, lively prose. Her instinct is to connect facts with stories and everyday situations, so that a technical subject still feels human and worth exploring.
Code, science and writing
Matt writes a large part of the site as well as building it. He enjoys code, programming, scientific logic and the pleasure of turning an idea into a fast, practical tool. The periodic table has fascinated him for years: its apparent simplicity hides a structure capable of explaining an extraordinary amount about matter.
Because science becomes memorable when it connects with something real. A phone contains a surprising collection of elements; copper explains part of our electrical world; silicon links sand to microchips; iron belongs to bridges and blood alike. We want each visit to leave one useful idea behind and, ideally, another question.
We read, compare sources, write, test, rewrite and keep the site deliberately lightweight. Scientific claims are separated from interpretation, and numerical properties are added only when they can be checked against reliable references. The writing is produced for each language rather than translated word for word.
Mendeleev.com is written and maintained by Flo (Fl) and Matt (Mt). Both contribute to editorial work; Matt also develops the site and its tools.
