Ideal transformer

For an ideal transformer, the voltage ratio equals the turns ratio. More secondary turns increase voltage; fewer turns decrease it.

Two worked examples

Example 1

1,000 primary turns and 100 secondary turns convert 230 V to 23 V ideally.

Example 2

A 2:1 turns ratio ideally doubles the voltage from primary to secondary.
