Two worked examples

Example 1

Melting 1.0 kg of ice at 0 °C with L = 334 kJ/kg requires about 334 kJ.

Example 2

For 250 g of ice under the same conditions, the required energy is about 83.5 kJ.

Good to knowUse the latent heat for the relevant substance and phase change. Sensible heating before or after the change must be calculated separately.
