Repeated halving

N=N₀(1/2)^{t/T½}। एक half-life के बाद 50%, दो के बाद 25%, तीन के बाद 12.5% बचता है। समान संख्या नहीं बल्कि समान fraction हटता है।

N=N₀e^{−λt} और half-life form को बराबर रखने पर λT½=ln2≈0.693। इसलिए T½=0.693/λ।

Memoryless property

Half-life population statistic है, individual nucleus की scheduled lifetime नहीं।

Half-life केवल clock timescale देता है; geological interpretation sample history पर निर्भर है।

छोटे samples और fluctuations

Half-life sample size independent

केवल exact powers of two पर ही half-life उपयोगी नहीं; किसी भी fractional remaining value से continuous logarithmic relation लागू होती है।

ऐसी curve का कोई एक universal half-life नहीं होता, भले short time interval में वह लगभग single exponential जैसी दिखे।

Measured half-life report करते समय fitted uncertainty, background model और detector stability महत्वपूर्ण हैं।
